Each AFNA instructor undergoes a rigorous employment screening process and is well trained in the effective communication and application of the school’s curriculum. All AFNA instructors have acquired post-secondary academic degrees and/or vocational training in fitness and fitness related subjects and are certified with prestigious professional credentials. They also bring with them a wide range of industry experience and wisdom to pass on the AFNA students. They are truly life changers.
Debbie Brown, BA
Debbie graduated from Saginaw Valley State University in 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education majoring in Physical and Health Education. With over two decades of experience in athletics and instruction, determination and dedication has been the driving force behind her success. She is a certified personal trainer, former national gymnastics competitor, and fitness and bodybuilding champion. Debbie is excited to be part of the Fitness and Nutrition Trainer program at AFNA and looks forward to sharing her knowledge and experience with motivated career fitness trainers.
Miriam Gabriel, BS
Miriam graduated from Cal State Northridge in 2021 with a B.S in Kinesiology and an emphasis in Applied Fitness and Active Lifestyle Development. She additionally studied Spanish at the Universidad de Granada in Spain. She has multiple years of fitness training experience under her belt, working at various fitness facilities, interning as a student trainer and sports performance assistant, and sweating hard as a pace runner at Nike. She currently teaches youth and senior citizen fitness classes for her community recreation center while also teaching career fitness trainer students at AFNA.
Matthew Seals, BS
Matthew earned a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from the University of Southern California in 2011 with an emphasis on Health Communication. While in school he worked directly with student athletes on both the football and track and field teams. Upon graduating, Matthew began his career in health and wellness at a chiropractic office, where he was first exposed to manual bodywork.. From there he completed an intense program of training specific to massage, including both Eastern and Western philosophies. As a fully licensed practitioner, Matthew began working for Equinox Fitness – first as a massage therapist before eventually taking the reigns as spa manager. With over six years of professional experience as a bodyworker, Matthew has built a solid clientele he works with privately as well. When not busy with massage, Matthew enjoys being outdoors, cycling and live music.
Brandi Stoessel, AFNA Diploma, ACSM CPT
Brandi Stoessel began as a student at AFNA in 2019 before earning her Fitness and Nutrition Trainer (FNT) program diploma and going to work as a professional fitness trainer and group exercise instructor in greater Los Angeles. Also certified through the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), Brandi is excited to return to AFNA as a lab instructor for the next generation of FNT students.
